Kurwongbah Representatives

100% Guaranteed Representation

My name is Thor Prohaska and I believe that an elected representative should represent what the majority in the electorate want. Not what the representative wants and if they are a member of a political party, not what the party wants and especially NOT what the donors to the political party want.

I was born in Collinsville North Queensland and I am a 5th generation Australian of English, Irish & Moravian heritage. I have lived in the electorate of Kurwongbah since 2003 when I moved back to Queensland after living in Melbourne for 23 years. I am married with 4 children. I have worked in the public & private sectors, I've run my own businesses and I was a pioneer of the sport of snowboarding in Australia. My current employment is as an Account Representative. Click here for more details about me.

I have been interested in democracy since I was a lad as both sides of my family were politically active via their involvement in the union movement. However, I came to the conclusion early in my life that neither the left nor the right of politics had all the answers and that the best path was a balance of both. This approach was reinforced when I asked my father, who was a small business man ( Mobil Oil agent, Hardware shop owner & landlord ) why he didn't take the opportunity to get more involved with the various labour movements when he knew the people at the top. He said to me that the main thing he took from these movements was that if every man looked after his family then society would look after itself. Since that time I have always voted Independent and when there wasn't an independent I voted for the candidate who I believed was most likely to put the Will of the electorate first.   Here is a link to a YouTube video that I produced from my family film archives of the convoy of coal miners who drove to Brisbane in the early 1960s in a bid to keep the Collinsville State mine open.

I'm an experienced candidate having run for elected office on 3 occasions:

  • 2013 - Federal seat of Petrie - Palmer United Party - 10.4% of the primary vote
  • 2015 - Qld state seat of Pine Rivers - Independent - 4.66% of the primary vote
  • 2016 - Federal seat of Dickson - Independent - 3.54% of the primary vote

For the record the ONLY reason I ran with PUP was because my school friend Susie Douglas ( former 2 term Gold Coast Councillor and  political adviser to Glenn Lazarus during the 2016 election ) invited me to be a candidate for the United Australia Party ( as it was called before Palmer changed it to PUP ) because she thought that I "took a balanced approach to policy debate". Before I said yes I asked Susie, "Can I represent what the voters of my electorate want even if it is not what Clive wants, or what the party wants?" And she said, "Yes, that is what Clive wants". So I joined the UAP/PUP and during my time there I maintained a consistent message to voters and to the party internally that it was my job as a representative to represent what the voters want. As history shows Clive didn't walk the talk of fixing what was broken in our democracy and in 2014 I left the party. Here is a link to the ABC 7:30 report where I went on the public record about why I left.

I say that political parties are not necessary and in fact that they interfere with the full expression of the democratic will of the voters. To me the best model is to have on the ground networks of community & policy representatives facilitating the building of an electorate wide consensus on each and every policy while using the speed and power of the internet to make this process as efficient and effective as possible. This model acknowledges that every electorate is sovereign and manages their own affairs and determines their own policy positions. To make this a reality I have chosen to use the name of the electorate ( Dickson ) with the word that describes what we are ( Representatives ).

We are voters
We are Sovereign
We do not want a party puppet as our representative
WE want OUR WILL to be DONE
